Apalache
Advocacy for the arts, education, and dynamics affecting culture. The antique spelling of this word, “Apalache”, harkens back to the 17th century journal. An English explorer, attempting to inter-communicate with the Native American traveling with him, spelled this word as an example of the spoken name of the mountains in what is now the valley of Virginia.
The above image, “Canoe”, was the inspiration for the logo image for Apalache. A fine art intaglio edition of thee was produced by the artist in 1976. The image below is the newer version, in black and white, of the original.
